Building MLOP Training Center

The Heart-Heart Foundation visited the site where the construction of MLOP is currently taking place in Koramtola from May 3rd through 9th. MLOP Center strives to train ophthalmologist professions to treat and prevent ophthalmic diseases. (MLOP is an acronym for Mid-level Ophthalmic Personnel and mean dedicated ophthalmic paramedics and nurses in ophthalmic departments defined by WHO.)
Among the 150 million Bangladesh population there are only 6,300 registered ophthalmologist and most them reside in the urban areas. It is very difficult for people in rural area to find ophthalmologist. Vitamin A deficiency  from malnutrition, damages to cornea and conjunctivitis from environmental causes are common diseases that can easily be treated in Korea now days, but theses are still deadly disease in Bangladesh.
The construction on the foundation is 80% complete and completion of the center is aimed for November 2010. training courses are planned to start in 2011.
The Heart-Heart Foundation has been carrying out the mission to recover the sights of people in need in Bangladesh since 2008. The Foundation is also supporting to build the ophthalmologist  clinic and offering free exam and surgeries.
