To briefly introduce the UNESCAP High-Level Meeting, it is an inter-governmental meeting of high-level representatives of UNESCAP to make  final evaluations of the 2nd Asian and Pacific Decades of Disable Persons(2003-2013) and to set the strategy for the 3rd Asian and Pacific Decades of Disabled Persons(2013-2022).

 

 

At the conference, the Heart String Ensemble was invited as Korea's first role-model in promoting the cultural welfare of youths with developmental disabilities. The ensemble's performance of "Winter" from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and Leroy Anderson's "Fiddle Faddle" presented a deep impression to the 250 delegate members of ESCAP, Asia-Pacific NGOs and UN bodies. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The performance was all the more special as Heart to Heart Orchestra's flutist Dong-Gyun Kim, the first student with developmental disability to be admitted to the Korea National University of Arts, played the solo in "Gabriel's Oboe". During the performance, the audience witnessed a youth overcoming his disability and connect to the world through music, finally discovering his role as a member of the society.

 

 

We are committed to support and promote the United Nation's International Day of People with Disability, and to continue our task to promote understanding of people with disabilities.
