Story of a student who received eye care services

Mr. Shabari Omary (father of Halima Shabani)

District eye coordinator providing counseling to Mr. Shabari Omary on his daughter’s eye problem

My daughter had eye problems. During the day when the sun was strong and shining she often shed tears because of the pain in her eyes and said that she can’t see well. I took her to the traditional healer because of lack of trust in the hospital. One day, I was called from her school and I met an eye doctor who examined my daughter's eyes. He offered counseling to me regarding her eye condition and gave free medicine. Also, he was strongly advising that my daughter should wear glasses to prevent direct sunlight. My distrust of eye care service at health facilities has disappeared as I receive accurate diagnosis and consultation from the eye doctor. Now, my lovely daughter's eye condition has been much better because I followed the eye doctor's all direction. I became a voluntary ambassador in my village to advice villagers not to depend on traditional healer instead they have to go to hospital where they can get appreciate and reliable treatment. This is because I witnessed that traditional healers make eye/health condition worse rather they can't provide medical service to the people.
