In 2019 December,
The ceremony of transfer Vitrector, which is necessary for eye surgery to
child, was held in Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital that only has an eye doctor
for child in Malawi.
This surgical instrument is indispensible to operate eye
surgery for child such as not only eye bleeding and damage but also eye
diseases like cataract,
lid ptosis, and squint. However, it was impossible to support eye
surgery for children who had eye diseases because the instrument that used in
Queen Elizabeth hospital had been broke. Therefore, it means children never get
eye surgery in Malawi anymore. Accordingly, the hospital asked HHI to support
surgical instrument in Malawi branch. So our branch could handover Vitrector by
supporting from L’Occitane for Eye Health Promotion.
In developing countries, many children who have been suffered can go blind because they can’t usually being treated in appropriate time. Supporting of eye
surgical instrument makes that child who has an eye disease can be prevented in
not only southern region, which Queen Elizabeth hospital is located, but also a
whole country. Thanks to support of Vitrector, it
makes that 59 children who have to be treated can get eye surgery promptly. Finally, they can see the world again by their healthier eyes.
Dr. Msukwa, a head of ophthalmology department, appreciated for supporting surgical instrument through HHI and also promised repeatedly that all doctors will do best for Malawi children
to treat their eye disease. |
