World Diabetes Day on November 14, designated by the World Health Organization(WHO) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), is a world anniversary to promote diabetes prevention.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that about 41 million people worldwide die from Non-Communicable Diseases(NCD) every year. Cambodia is a country with 64% of deaths rate from NCD, including diabetes, and many residents suffer from NCD.

However, most NCD can be prevented by improving lifestyle such as eating habits, physical activity, smoking, and drinking.

Among them, 'walking' is one of the easiest preventive activities to practice. Heart to Heart Foundation Cambodia held a walking campaign to raise awareness on the diabetes on November 12th to mark World Diabetes Day.

A total of 70 major stakeholders from health authorities, including the Thmor Kol Operation District (OD), and students participated in the campaign. Participants walked about 4km and shouted slogans together to prevent diabetes.

The importance of preventing NCD in the community has increased. Accordingly, the broadcaster(Battambang National TV(TVK), CNC TV) visited to report the campaign to residents who could not participate in the campaign. And this campaign has also been reported as an excellent case in the community.

Although the number of participants was limited to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign was able to encourage participants and local residents to practice walking exercises in their daily lives.

Heart to Heart Foundation Cambodia will continue to support residents to improve the health of the Cambodian communities. Please support Heart to Heart Foundation and Cambodian residents' hopeful steps!
