“I feel so pleased all the time after each concert, thinking we did well. So, I’ll continue on practicing playing flute hard.”
It is said by Taekseung Lee(20) who is a member of ‘Heart Wind Orchestra’ consisted of the youth having developmental disabilities.
The welcoming luncheon for Heart Wind Orchestra held at Garden Sweet Hotel hosted by LA general consulate on the 1st was with the 21 orchestra members who moved local Koreans in US by their performance on the previous day.
Heart Wind Orchestra was founded by Heart-to-Heart Foundation in 2006 in Korea for the rehabilitation of the youth having developmental disabilities but talented in music. There were lots of doubts about if the youth having developmental disabilities can play in orchestra in the beginning of the founding. But they have been performing successfully receiving the acclaim ‘beautiful performance achieving miracle’.
Jaesu Kim, the LA general consulate who hosted the event said, “They’ve shown great performance which even the normal can’t do well”, and also said, “It would be big strength and courage to the local Koreans in US who suffer from many difficulties including poor economic condition.”
The performance of Heart Wind Orchestra in the US this time was organized by the invitation of Ray Graham, the professional institution for developmental disabilities. They also brought impressive melodies to the local Koreans living in the US at World Vision Church in North Ridge on the 30th and Oriental Mission Church in Cerritos on the 1st. Both concerts were sponsored by Joongang Daily News and Joongang Broadcasting Corporation after the concert in Chicago.
The chief director of Heart-to-Heart Foundation Insuk Shin said, “The youth having developmental disabilities don’t give impression only by music performance. It is more moving when they are changing through music and show they are not different from the normal in the process.” Heart Wind Orchestra that presented dream and hope through two times of performances in LA will return to Korea on the 2nd.
